The fall SSAC tournament is named in honour of the club‘s former president, John M. Ferguson (1946-2000). The South Side Athletic Club recognizes John‘s contribution and many hours of volunteer service. He also volunteered for the Malmo Community League and the South West Zone Hockey Association. John was a major contributor to the AA Council EMHA Christmas Tournament and played in the Oldtimer’s Hockey league.

In 1996, John received an Award of Recognition from the Edmonton Federation of Hockey Council. In 1998, John received an Award for Outstanding Contribution to minor hockey from the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association. We miss John greatly as a friend and as a fellow volunteer. Many thanks to the Ferguson family for John‘s contributions.
